Playback was sitting on hours of gold—amazing content that no one saw. In just weeks, those hidden assets turned into 68M impressions after one game-changing move
The Challenge: Turning Live Moments Into Lasting Growth
The buzzer beater. The impossible catch. The ref’s blown call that has everyone screaming. On Playback, thousands of sports fans experience these moments together, watching live with their favorite creators, reacting in real time, and building an energy you just cannot recreate anywhere else. It’s electric. It’s authentic. But there’s a challenge. How do you turn those live moments into content that brings in more live viewers and puts creators in front of new audiences? When the livestream ended, the best parts did too. The viral reactions, the heated debates, the laugh out loud moments all stayed buried in the archives, with no real way to reach new fans.
That meant more than 170 hours of live content every month, full of discovery potential, going largely untapped.
The Problem: Creator's Dilemma
Playback creators were producing 170+ hours of live streams, but like most long-form content, each broadcast had a short shelf life. Once the stream ended, the reach dropped, distribution became inconsistent, and the value of all that production time was difficult to extend across the platforms where audiences actually discover new content—short-form, feed-driven channels.
At the same time, creators are being forced to operate more like real media businesses: if something doesn’t perform, you can’t keep pouring time into it. Playback needed a repeatable way to turn live streams into a post-live growth engine—one that consistently repurposed and distributed the best moments to reach new viewers and prove ROI.
High-effort live content with limited post-stream impact
No scalable repurposing workflow from long-form to short-form
Inconsistent distribution across platform-native channels
Hard to measure performance and justify the investment in live production
The Solution: Workflows for repurposing live content
To unlock the full value of their live content, Playback partnered with Overlap to build automated workflows that repurpose every livestream into social ready clips at scale. On May 1st, 2025, Playback integrated Overlap’s AI directly into their platform, ensuring that every livestream from top creators was automatically captured, analyzed, and transformed the moment it ended. The goal was simple: remove manual editing from the process and turn live moments into consistent discovery engines across social platforms.
Once a stream ends, Overlap automatically ingests the full VOD and gets to work. The AI watches every moment, analyzing audio signals, facial expressions, chat velocity, and engagement patterns to pinpoint what fans actually care about. Emotional spikes like shouting, laughter, or shock, sudden chat explosions with hundreds of messages, pivotal game changing plays, and historically viral patterns are all identified without human input. Within 15 minutes, creators receive 8 to 12 high quality clips ready for review. With one click, those clips can be published to TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts. What once required 2 to 3 hours of manual editing is now reduced to about 5 minutes of review, allowing creators to stay focused on going live while their content continues working for them around the clock.

The Results: 10-15x reach multiplier with zero extra effort
Before Overlap, the creator was already putting in the work, streaming about 20 hours each month, but the output stayed small. That time usually turned into only 2 to 4 clips, reaching roughly 30,000 people. After Overlap, the streaming schedule stayed exactly the same at 20 hours per month, but the results looked completely different. Each month now produced 40 to 60 clips and reached around roughly 400K people, delivering a 10 to 15x reach multiplier with zero extra effort.
The shift came from automation, not added effort. With a one-time platform integration and about 5 minutes of creator time per stream, Overlap’s AI agents continuously identified high-performing moments, generated clips, and kept content circulating long after the broadcast ended. The result was 1.5M views and 340+ hours saved, proving that live content doesn’t need to stay locked to the moment it airs—when every stream can power a 24/7 growth engine that pulls new viewers into future live sessions.
