Each row’s footnote is the Submagic source. Overlap’s column is read from its documentation and its own site, listed as sources 17 to 30.
Moving from Submagic to Overlap
What a team gives up and what it gains, in the same voice. The number after each line is its source in the list under the table.
What you give up
A published per-member price. Submagic prints every plan; Overlap’s platform is a custom quote from sales.1
Zapier, Make and n8n. Submagic lists all three, plus Gumloop; Overlap has none of them.10
Webhooks. Submagic notifies a webhookUrl when processing completes; Overlap’s API is polled.8
A printed language count. Submagic’s help centre lists captions in 100+ languages; Overlap’s docs publish no count.13
A look before you pay. Submagic lets you upload 3 short videos without a plan; Overlap publishes no free tier.14
AI eye contact correction and AI actors. Submagic lists both on Pro and Business; Overlap’s docs list neither.1
What you gain
Runs that start on their own. A workflow listens to a YouTube channel or playlist, a Dropbox or Frame.io folder, an RSS or podcast feed, an audio livestream or an RTMP/HLS stream.17
Nine publishing platforms today, including X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Threads, Snapchat and Bluesky, with cadence rules, approval and a calendar.22
Chained editing steps. Find Clips, Convert to Vertical, Style Video, B-roll, music, filler and curse-word removal and routing nodes in one saved workflow.17
A different meter. Overlap’s platform tracks processing hours and active workflows, not videos per member with a cap on each video’s length.27
The option to hand it over. Managed campaigns run by Overlap’s team on accounts you own, priced per delivered view.28
Overlap vs Submagic, answered
For turning long videos into short clips, yes. Both caption, reframe to 9:16 and post. They start from different places. Submagic is an editor for short videos: you upload a clip and it adds captions, B-roll, zooms and music, and long-video clipping is a separate add-on called Magic Clips. Overlap starts from the long video. A workflow watches a YouTube channel, a Dropbox folder, an RSS feed or a livestream, cuts the clips, styles them and posts them on a schedule. Overlap’s team can also run the whole campaign for you on accounts you own. Submagic sells software only.
Overlap posts to nine platforms from accounts you connect: TikTok, Instagram, YouTube including Shorts, X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Threads, Snapchat and Bluesky. Submagic’s scheduler page says it publishes and schedules to TikTok, Instagram Reels and Stories, and YouTube Shorts, and lists LinkedIn, Facebook and X as coming soon. Publishing is on its Pro and Business plans, not on Starter. Threads, Snapchat and Bluesky are not listed on any Submagic page we checked.
Submagic publishes its prices per member: Starter at $19 a month or $12 billed yearly, Pro at $39 or $23, Business at $69 or $41, and a custom tier through sales. Each plan counts videos per member and caps each video at 2, 5 or 30 minutes. Magic Clips, its long-video clipper, is a separate add-on that the help centre lists at $19 a month for 10 uploads. Overlap’s platform is priced on a custom quote; contact sales for one. It is billed on processing hours and active workflows, and managed campaigns are priced at $0.50 to $2.50 CPM on delivered views, up to a monthly ceiling you set.
Both do. Submagic has a REST API metered in minutes, with 10 a month included on Starter and Pro and 100 on Business, plus webhooks, an MCP server that uses the same API key, and Zapier, Make and n8n connections. Overlap has a REST API that triggers any saved workflow, polls results and renders clips, and an MCP server with 30 tools for Codex and Claude Desktop. Overlap has no Zapier or Make app and no webhooks; its watched sources start runs instead.
It can clip a long recording you hand it. Magic Clips takes a file upload, a YouTube link or a public Google Drive link and returns short clips, each with a virality score. It is an add-on subscription on top of a Submagic plan. None of the Submagic pages we checked lists an RSS or podcast feed, a Dropbox folder or a livestream as a source. Overlap watches all three, so a new episode or a live broadcast starts a run without anyone uploading it.
Run it yourself, or have us run it.
Overlap is an AI video clipping platform. Teams run it themselves, or Overlap's team runs managed clipping campaigns for them on accounts the customer owns, priced per delivered view.
Run it yourself
Connect the sources you already publish from, set the brand rules once, and let the workflow turn long recordings into edited, captioned clips. Your team reviews and posts to nine platforms from one calendar.
Or have us run it
Overlap's team runs the clipping campaign on accounts you own. You set a monthly ceiling, spend follows the views that were delivered, and the accounts, the posts and the audience stay yours.
